Episode 1 - Our Brains Are Supercomputers

Your Brain Is a Supercomputer: How to Harness the Power of Your Subconscious

Welcome to Voice Notes from the Chrysalis! This 21‑episode journey is my way of sharing the golden nuggets from five years of transformation—and today, we’re diving into one of my favorite hot takes: our brains are supercomputers.

Why Your Brain Is More Than Just an Organ

We often think of the brain as a bundle of nerve cells firing synapses, but neuroscience (and lived experience) shows us it’s so much more. The conscious mind handles what we’re aware of, while the subconscious and unconscious mind quietly run the show—processing beliefs, assumptions, and perceptions that shape our lives.

Neuroscientist Emily McDonald, known as @EmOnTheBrain, shares fascinating insights about this. But beyond the science, I’ve seen firsthand how the subconscious acts like a supercomputer, preparing us for breakthroughs long before we realize it.

Procrastination as Preparation

Ever put off a task—like making a video, writing, or having a tough conversation—only to find that when you finally do it, it takes 20 minutes instead of the whole day you dreaded? That’s your subconscious brain working in the background.

While you’re procrastinating, your supercomputer brain is rehearsing, problem‑solving, and waiting for the right timing. What feels like resistance is often incubation.

Real‑Life Example: From Stuck to Viral

I once scripted and recorded a laptop video but couldn’t finish editing. For six weeks, I was stuck. Then, inspired by another creator, I reimagined the project: shorter, snappier, funnier, with a green screen effect I’d never used before.

The result? A YouTube Short with over 1,000 views—far outperforming the original concept. My conscious mind was attached to the first idea, but my subconscious knew there was a better way.

How to Partner With Your Supercomputer Brain

Here’s how I intentionally use this tool:

  • Set the intention. Tell your subconscious what you want—whether it’s a creative project, a conversation, or even an experience.

  • Release the worry. Hand it off mentally, like delegating to a trusted partner.

  • Watch for signals. Ideas, clarity, or opportunities will surface when the timing is right.

It’s similar to prayer or manifestation, but instead of giving it up to God, you’re giving it to your subconscious supercomputer.

Living Life for Yourself

This practice is one of many that helped me transform my life over the past five years. It’s about trusting your inner systems, leaning into timing, and living life for yourself—not for others’ expectations.

And if you’re ready to go deeper, my new digital course, Discover Your Self, distills the three exercises that saved me from burnout, confusion, and wasted time. These tools cost me five years and $20,000 to learn, but you can access them in one guided experience.

Discover Your Self launches December 21st for early birds at a special price, and opens to the public December 28th. Sign up here: https://www.avalonmcmullen.com/discover-your-self
